Topher carries a backpack whenever he travels. In addition to the standard changes of clothes, the following can be found inside it: a notebook; a number of pencils (all bearing evidence of teeth marks); a wallet containing several forms of identification and credit cards in various names; an old Gameboy and a handful of batteries; a scuffed black plastic device, which he refers to as the Disruptor; a silver Swiss army knife and matches. On his right arm, he wears an embossed silver bracelet and, around his neck, a diamond solitaire ring on a gold chain.

emotional +

Topher has had intermittent nightmares for months. As they cause him to both talk and walk in his sleep, he cannot pretend they do not exist. However, he will rarely talk about the details, leaving those who wish to know more to piece things together for themselves. Those who have witnessed one can determine the following: everyone says the tech has been destroyed. Everyone says they are safe. Topher's subconscious says otherwise.

Topher's reasons for leaving Los Angeles are his own. Anyone attempting to learn or understand them should expect long-term resistance from him. He is usually wary when meeting people for the first time and, although he was known for being chatty in the Dollhouse, comes across as generally uneasy in social situations. Topher does not confide in many people. When he does, it is usually under extreme duress or in anger.

His personal background remains largely a mystery even to those closest to him. He does not mention his parents or childhood; when he speaks of his time at university, it is always guardedly. Topher normally refuses point blank to discuss his years of employment with the Rossum Corporation. Likewise any attention to either his bracelet or the diamond ring is usually met with silence.

historical +

Topher was recognised as highly intelligent from an early age, which his schooling reflects. He is thought to have attended the Mirman School, a fact that he will neither confirm nor deny. He completed a bachelors degree in science, followed by a doctorate in neuroscience at Stanford School of Medicine. In 1998, he was offered a PhD-student position at R Prime-Lab, MA (completed, with security level two clearance granted, 1999).

At an unknown date prior to 2005, Topher was employed as principal programmer of the Los Angeles Dollhouse, where he significantly changed and improved the imprinting process. He appears to have lived within the house for the duration of his employment. In 2009, with the destruction of the Tuscon Dollhouse and Rossum Corporation headquarters, most houses ceased operating (this is a matter of public record). The Los Angeles branch remained open, with minimal staff, under the control of Adelle DeWitt (former director of the house). Topher remained employed in a technical and programming capacity. In addition, he was occasionally sent on liaising embassies to the few houses that remained open, alongside Caroline Farrell and Paul Ballard.

Subsequent activities between 2010 and the present are unknown.

psychological +

Prior to his admission to R Prime-Lab, Topher underwent full psychological profiling. The summarised record of his results is as follows:
MBT: finished quickly and with relative disinterest. The E-I distinction is small, with a slight preference for introversion (though see below for his tendency towards impulsive behaviour; this may affect these results). His S-N and T-F preferences are more distinct, showing a strong sensing-thinking function. His J-P preference shows an average tendency toward perceiving.

WAIS-III: again finished in good time, with scores in the highest percentile in all areas except verbal comprehension. T.'s recall and decision-making is executed quickly, and with an exceptional degree of accuracy. In conjunction with free association tests, the WAIS shows an independent, analytical thinker who is both highly imaginative and highly impulsive.

General observations: T. demonstrates a tendency towards anti-authority. He has difficulty empathising with others, as well as with situations requiring trust on his part. He appears supremely confident in himself; the reality of this is doubtful. His insecurities manifest most strongly when he lacks knowledge or direction. However, once a decision has been made, it seems final, and attempts to sway him from his resolve meet with a headstrong, almost arrogant, temperament. His social skills are within normal range, although he demonstrates a somewhat elitist attitude with regard to his friends, preferring to associate only with proven peers. He also shows an inclination to obsessive-compulsive behaviour, evidenced in his monomaniac interest in certain subjects (television, video games and pop culture among them) and his propensity to assign significance to material possessions.
